PATHLESS WOODS, 2016
Scent commission
This scent was created for Anne Patterson’s monumental scale installation at the Ringling Museum. Inspired by the quote from Byron “there is pleasure in the pathless woods” the installation creates a total environment with miles of ribbon, where the viewer becomes lost in the field of textures and colors. The scent echoes the forest concept, and is composed mostly of wood and moss notes, with hints of brighter leafy tones to convey the full ecosystem of a forest. To abstract the experience and make the smell less literal and open to the imagination, the scent also layers more steely mineral notes and crystalline notes reminiscent of light.
